Day 26 – List Hygiene—How to Keep Your List Healthy and Responsive

Day 26—growing your list is exciting, but keeping it clean is critical.

I mentioned list management in previous lessons but let's take a deeper dive to this ever-important tactic of email list hygiene.

First thing to do:  Check who hasn’t opened or clicked in 60–90 days.

Send a short re-engagement email before cleaning.

Remember my 9 word email?  USE IT (or something like it.

So how do you do this list hygiene?

    1. Track opens, clicks and purchases for each person who opts into your list.
    2. Set a criteria:  if a customer has not opened any emails in 90 days, he will be removed from my list.
    3. Continue building your list and contacting them (via email) often, as much as once or more per day.
    4. Keep tracking data on all the items mentioned and set goals for rewarding or removing those members.

Once you set up a routine, you will get used to deleting non-engaged subscribers just as much as putting new prospects onto your list with your LCPs.

A smaller, engaged list beats a bloated, inactive one every time.

Tag your active subscribers and treat them like gold with early offers and special messages.
